Today, Indian mobile phone maker Micromax has made official a new flagship smartphone running under the Android operating system, in the form of Micromax Canvas Nitro A310.

The new handset has been announced during a press event in New Delhi, and is available for purchase in India starting today, exclusively via Snapdeal.

This is one of the most affordable flagship Android phones in India, as it features a price tag of only Rs. 12,990 ($216/€167). Despite the low cost, however, those who will buy the phone will receive a great deal of highly appealing features inside it.

High-end features at an affordable price

Micromax has unveiled the new Canvas Nitro with a 5-inch IPS touchscreen display that can deliver an HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. The screen sports a 178-degree viewing angle, along with an anti-fingerprint oleophobic coating, Micromax has revealed.

Moreover, the handset vendor included a 1.7GHz true octa-core MediaTek processor in the phone, pairing it with a Mali 450 GPU.

As the company points out, the fact that this is a true octa-core processor means that all eight cores work together to ensure high-end performance capabilities for all users.

The Micromax Canvas Nitro also comes with 2GB of RAM, as well as with 8GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Additionally, it features dual-SIM capabilities, along with support for 3G HSPA+ networks, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. A built-in GPS receiver and a 2500mAh battery were also included in the package.

Canvas Nitro is suitable for selfies too

On the back, the new Micromax Canvas Nitro has a 13-megapixel camera with LED Flash and auto focus, Sony IMX135 CMOS sensor, and f/2.2 aperture, which will enable users to easily record videos in full HD resolution.

At the same time, the mobile phone was announced with a 5MP front-facing camera that sports an OmniVision OV5648 sensor and 22m-wide angle lens with 75-degree viewing, which will make it a great option for taking selfies.

The handset runs under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, but Micromax also loaded a variety of custom applications and software enhancements on top of it.

Some of these are: Quicklook homescreen (which includes Trending apps widgets, Facebook and Twitter feeds, weather info, and the like), a new lock screen called Blinkscreen, Smart Gestures, Smart Alerts, and a Camera Widget for fast access to camera features such as Stable Shot, Refocus and more.

Micromax Canvas Nitro is available today on Snapdeal in Mesmerising Blue and Pristine White color flavors, while also featuring a leather finish. Unfortunately, Micromax hasn’t revealed whether the phone will be released through other retailers as well.
