Micromax has just announced that the sequel to the Canvas Nitro smartphone launched last year in India will go on sale soon at Infibeam.

Micromax Canvas Nitro 2 is a mid-range handset that will be available for purchase for only Rs 10,990 outright, which is about $175 or €150.

The smartphone hasn't yet been listed at Infibeam, but Micromax confirms the Canvas Nitro 2 will soon go on sale. Customers will be able to get the handset from other major retailer across the country as well, BGR India reports.

Moving on to specs, Micromax Canvas Nitro 2 is a mid-range smartphone that ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system onboard. That's too bad because competition in India, especially at the mid-range tier, is pretty fierce and KitKat is a big downside for newly launched devices.

No Lollipop, but octa-core CPU and 2GB RAM

Nevertheless, the Canvas Nitro 2 has other advantages, such as the 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek processor inside, which is complemented by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

As expected, the smartphone packs microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB) and offers dual-SIM support.

Coming to screen, Micromax's latest Android smartphone sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. There's no Corning Gorilla Glass coating, but at this price we wouldn't have expected.

On the back, the Canvas Nitro 2 boasts a more than decent 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

Micromax Canvas Nitro 2 is powered by a 2,400 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. Other highlights of the phone include Bluetooth 4.0, 3G connectivity, GPS with AGPS support, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack and FM Radio.
