It appears that the launch of the Moto E in India has triggered an unending wave of new releases from native OEMs that are trying to compete with the hottest Android smartphones available in the country.

Micromax, XOLO, iBall and Lava launched their owned affordable smartphones in the same price range and with similar or slightly better features than the Motorola Moto E.

The newest Moto E rival is called Micromax Canvas A105 and is now listed at HomeShop18, but for the moment it’s out of stock.

We suspect it’s no coincidence that Micromax’s mid-range smartphone has been priced at Rs 6,999 ($120 / €85) outright, which is the same amount Flipakrt is asking for the Motorola Moto E.

At first glance, Micromax Canvas A105 offers slightly better features than the Moto E, which is why it can be considered a serious competitor when it arrives on the market.

Additionally, Indian retailer HomeShop18 will also offer a free flip cover worth Rs 999 ($17 / €12.5) to each customer who purchases the smartphone.

Here are some of the specs Micromax Canvas A105 includes and might be better than Moto E’s. First of all, the smartphone comes with a slightly larger 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports only WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution.

The Moto E sports only a smaller 4.3-inch, which comes with support for qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution. On the inside, the Canvas A105 is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, whereas the Moto E has a dual-core CPU.

The bad news is Micromax Canvas A105 is packed with only 512MB of RAM, while the Moto E offers 1GB of RAM. Both smartphones come with only 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

On the back, Canvas A105 features a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, autofocus and video recording, while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

More importantly, the smartphone offers dual-SIM capability and is powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

Last but not least, Micromax Canvas A105 drains energy from a 1900 mAh battery, which should provide up to 150 hours of standby time or up to 5 hours of talk time.

For the time being, there are no details on exactly when the smartphone will go on sale, but we hope that will happen sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
