The other day, esteemed fashion designer L’Wren Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment after apparently hanging herself with a scarf from an L-shaped doorknob. As speculation on the reason that pushed her to such an extreme gesture mounts, her longtime boyfriend Mick Jagger is speaking out on his loss.

In a post on his official Facebook page, the Rolling Stones rocker addresses the death of Scott and, at the same time, squashing rumors that he had broken up with her just shortly before she killed herself. However, he doesn’t do that in as many words.

“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me,” Jagger writes.

“I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her,” the rocker continues.

Even before Scott’s unexpected death, there had been various rumors making the rounds in the tabloids, saying that Jagger had broken up with her because she kept pushing him to take their romance to the next level by getting married.

She desperately wanted to be married and have a family, it was said, while he was of the opinion that they were just fine the way they were, so he saw no need to change anything about the status of their relationship.

A publicist has already denied all breakup rumors, both before and after the discovery of Scott’s body.

As for the reason why she thought suicide was the only way out, countless reports say that financial troubles had finally gotten too big for Scott to handle, as she’d come to see her fashion business riddled with so much debt that she’d realized there was no saving it anymore.

Scott’s business showed the first signs of trouble as early as 2009 and things didn’t improve since then. Ever a proud woman, she is said to have refused to turn to Jagger for help, thinking it would somehow belittle her efforts if she asked him for money.

At the same time, trying to deal with these problems and seeing no end to them (in 2013, she was $5.89 million [€4.23 million] in debt, according to documents obtained shortly after her death) allegedly made Scott feel “humiliated” to the point where she had been acting weird for weeks before she finally went ahead with her tragic plan and took her own life.
