14 DAY TRIAL // Not long ago, it was announced that a new Michael Jackson song would be released on radio on October 12 to promote the upcoming docu-film “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” and accompanying a 2-CD release. Hours before the official release, the song, also called “This Is It,” was already heard on the web after, first, a 45-second preview leaked online. As of now, the track continues to be available in full online.
“This Is It” is the track that Michael was working on for the London’s O2 series of shows and that he had nearly completed when he suddenly passed away in June this year. It was subsequently completed with the help of his brothers, all of which provided backing vocals on the finished version. All in all, “This Is It” is a sweet, heart-warming ballad that was to show the world that, indeed, Michael was back for one last time, NJ writes in a review of the leaked track.
“It’s a sweet, mid-tempo love song, with orchestral strings, a crisp beat, and creamy backing vocals by Jackson’s brothers. In the middle of one of the albums Jackson released during his life, it might not have received a lot of attention. But given the circumstances, it easily could become a hit. After Jackson’s rather grandiose opening line, he comes back down to earth, professing a love that seems to have taken him by surprise.” NJ says.
Indeed, “This Is It” is like a humbling experience for Michael, who starts off literally at the top of the world. “This is it, here I stand, /I’m the light of the world, I feel grand.” he sings. Love takes him by surprise and teaches him that there is nothing in this world that can match it. “I never heard a single word about you /Falling in love wasn’t my plan /I never thought that I would be your lover /Come on, please, just understand.” Michael says in the chorus.
“Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” the documentary comprised of the over 100 hours of footage shot during rehearsals for his London comeback, will be released in theaters on October 28. A day before, on October 27, Sony will release a 2-CD set that will also include a 36-page booklet with photos of Michael during the rehearsals, bundled as “Michael Jackson’s This Is It The Music That Inspired the Movie.” “This Is It,” the new song, will play at the ending credits of the docu-film.
