Michael Jackson undeniably remains one of the most loved, popular and successful pop artists ever, perhaps even more so after his death. Proof of that is having been named the ultimate global music icon.

Regardless of the controversy that diverted the media’s attention from his merits as an artist to his personal life, fans have never ceased to love and support Michael through thick and thin.

After his sudden and tragic death in the summer of 2009, sales for all his releases have seen an incredible boost, literally making him the best-selling artist in many years.

Now, readers of CNN have voted him as the number one music icon of all times, ahead of The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Madonna.

“Last month CNN's arts and culture program, icon, asked you to vote for your top five most iconic musicians of all time,” CNN says. Though the results score a brilliant distinction for the late King of Pop, it hardly comes as a surprise.

“The votes are in and Michael Jackson is your number one global music icon. Almost 100,000 of you voted to tell us that the self-styled King of Pop, who died suddenly in June 2009, is the musician you rate above all others,” CNN says.

“British pop group The Beatles, late Canto pop sensation Leslie Cheung, rock 'n' roller Elvis Presley and Reggae godfather Bob Marley also made the top five,” the same media outlet explains.

A surprising fact is that no female artist managed to break into the top 5, though Madonna, also known as the Queen of Pop, did come very close to the feat, landing on the sixth spot in the poll.

Perhaps coming to further capitalize on Michael’s ever-soaring popularity, another film is in the works, reports in the US media claim, which can’t but be wonderful news for fans.

While “This Is It” presented footage from the rehearsals for the tour of the same name (that never happened), this new film will presumably include never before seen behind the scenes footage from an older tour of Michael’s.
