14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier this week, confirmation came that Michael C. Hall and wife Jennifer Carpenter were getting a divorce. No one knew what prompted the decision to separate – but rumors are starting to pick up that he may have cheated with his other co-star, Julia Stiles.
Hall and Carpenter play brother and sister in Showtime’s popular “Dexter” series, where Stiles also had an important part this past season, the fifth, as fans must already know.
Though nothing concrete about the supposed affair has yet come out in the press, a report on Lainey Gossip suggests that Michael developed an affair with Stiles while shooting for season 5 of the series – and everybody on the set seemed to know about it.
As noted above, the report is more of a “blind item,” but word in the blogosphere says that, of the three surprising breakups announced just recently (Hall and Carpenter, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens), only Hall and Carpenter’s fits the description.
“Turns out there was someone else: his love interest this season on his TV show,” Lainey Gossip writes. Apparently, everyone caught wind of this – even the producers, who used the affair to make things more interesting for their characters onscreen.
“Their chemistry was so crazy and so evident to everyone that writer and producers, seeing it play out on set, actually cranked up their [love] scenes to capture it for show. Her career has seen a resurgence since,” the blind item reads.
What’s more, the affair is now more than physical: the two are head over heels with each other now, which prompted him to bring up the topic of divorce and file the papers.
“Eventually the two fell in love. They were together, very close, at a Halloween party in New York this fall hosted by a famously controversial writer (this isn’t a super important detail) and those who observed them that night are not surprised now that he’s ended it with his wife,” the blind item further says.
So far, a rep for the former couple has not been available for comment on this. How this supposed affair and the dissolution of Hall’s marriage will affect the upcoming season still remains to be seen.
