Today, Leap Wireless and MetroPCS have announced that they have reached a national roaming agreement regarding the exchange of wireless spectrum across their US networks. In consequence, subscribers of MetroPCS and those of Leap's subsidiaries – Cricket and Jump Mobile – will be able to use their handsets on any of the three carriers' networks. Leap and MetroPCS have also set aside all the litigations that have existed between them until now.

MetroPCS users will be allowed to roam on Leap Wireless' networks, while Cricket and Jump Mobile users will be able to do the same on MetroPCS's network. This is good news for subscribers of the two companies, since the networks in question are regional ones, and extended coverage is always more than welcome.

Speaking of the new agreement, President and Chief Executive Officer of Leap Wireless, Doug Hutcheson, declared, “We appreciate the manner in which both companies seized the opportunity to work together to achieve these mutually positive results. Both companies are pleased to have enhanced their spectrum portfolio in several key markets as we seek to provide our customers with the best wireless products and services. These agreements provide opportunities for both MetroPCS and Leap to deliver greater value to our customers across the country.”

“We are very pleased to have entered into the nationwide roaming agreement with Leap,” added Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of MetroPCS, Roger Linquist. “The expanded coverage which MetroPCS and Leap can offer as a result of this agreement will be a major benefit to our customers. These agreements benefit both parties and allow each of us to focus on the growth of our respective businesses.”

Together with their collaboration's announcement, Leap and MetroPCS have also revealed that they will acquire additional wireless spectrum in the US. More exactly, Leap will get 10 MHz of spectrum in the areas of San Diego, Seattle, Washington, Oregon and Fresno, while MetroPCS is acquiring 10 MHz of spectrum in Florida, North Texas, Dallas - Ft. Worth, Lakeland - Winter Haven, and Shreveport - Bossier City.
