The 50% discounts offered to Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light owners for the upcoming Redux versions are fair, according to developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver, who've explained their reasoning to fans.

The Metro franchise has delighted millions of fans from around the world with the great Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light installments.

However, since the release of Last Light last year, the team at 4A Games, together with publisher and franchise owner Deep Silver, has been working on overhauled versions of the two games, which will be released under the Redux name later this year.

In order to reward those who supported the series so far, the two companies are offering 50% discounts on the two Redux titles, provided you already own them on Steam for PC.

However, some fans haven't been exactly happy with this idea, particularly in terms of Metro: Last Light, as no bonus discount is offered to those who already had the game and all of its DLC packs.

Now, Deep Silver community representative Maurice Tan has explained the reasoning on the official Steam forums, acknowledging the negative feedback from the fanbase.

"We thought this was a great offer," he says about the 50% discounts, "but while there are many who are clearly very happy with the deal, it's been made clear on the Steam discussions here that there are others who think we have not done enough for owners of the existing games."

Tan explains that the 4A Games has worked really hard on the Redux versions by upgrading the core engine, making sure that Last Light runs well on it, and rebuilding 2033 from scratch in the new technology.

He also emphasizes that 4A realizes less work has been done on Last Light than on 2033 but, overall, the 50% discounts are still a fair offer.

"We think the 50% discount is more than fair for the amount of work that has gone into this title. It is a complete remake of the original game in the latest engine, that will offer a significantly different experience from the original throughout with improved graphics, performance and gameplay," he says.

Fans are invited to vote with their wallets, and if they don't want to get Metro: Last Light Redux, then they can easily just opt to purchase Metro 2033 Redux and enjoy the classic title in all its remastered glory.

The two games are set to debut later this month, on August 29.
