Video game publisher THQ has announced that it will be launching Metro: Last Light, the new game created by developer 4A Games, during the 2012 calendar year and that players will be able to get it on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC powered by Windows.

Last Light will again take players to the ruins of a post apocalypse Moscow and will deliver a new single-player campaign that focuses on the fight over a doomsday device, just as the remnants of humanity need to fend off increased attacks from the outside.

THQ says that the game will use both beautiful graphics and rich details to create the atmosphere that has impressed a lot of gamers in the first Metro video game.

Players will inhabit the tough persona of Artyom yet again as he tries to prevent civil war and make sure that the Metro inhabitants are ready to face their enemies and survive again.

Last Light will keep and expand the elements that made Metro 2033 interesting, including hand made weapons and ammunition, the mix between exploration and combat and the horror moments.

Danny Bilson, who is the executive vice president of Core Games at THQ, has stated when the announcement was made, “We believe that Metro 2033 was a flawed masterpiece. It was a beautiful, original game that didn’t get the marketing support it needed. We won’t make that mistake with Metro: Last Light.”

He added, “This game improves on the original in every way – it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original. Metro: Last Light is another artful piece of game development from an Eastern European studio that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter.”
