At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) we saw a lot of extremely interesting announcements, but two of them were foreshadowed by a huge teaser campaign right before the start of the conference: Metal Gear Solid: Rising and MGS: Peace Walker.

The two titles, coming from famous game designer Hideo Kojima, will follow new and interesting storylines in the extremely popular Metal Gear Solid universe, which started many years ago on the first PlayStation console. The new games will follow recurring character Raiden, in the case of Rising, and a new adventure for the famous Solid Snake in Peace Walker, which will be appearing only on the PlayStation Portable.

We've already heard Kojima reveal that he is extremely focused on Peace Walker, and now the designer has revealed that, in his view, this new portable title will be on the same level as the much-rumored Metal Gear Solid 5 iteration, as it is crucial to the saga of Snake's adventures.

“This game is an MGS5-class game,” Kojima says. “I am supervising, designing, producing, directing, and editing this title together with the MGS4 team. Therefore in that sense, “Metal Gear Solid” has not ended, and the “Metal Gear Saga” continues.”

Kojima also says that, while he wanted to leave the franchise to his team at Kojima Productions, he decided it wasn't that time yet. “I actually had the plan for this project in mind while working on MPO. Back then, I intended to place the project in the hands of the next generation of creators at Kojima Productions. However, in the end, I felt that it was still a little too early to leave it completely in their hands, so I decided to take the reins.”

The famous Japanese designer also reveals a few interesting things about the mechanics involved in the PSP game, as players will be able to customize Snake before going on a mission. Depending on their preferred playing style, users can fill him up with weapons and go in all guns blazing, or make him lighter and thus go in more secretly.

New for the game will be a “growth feature” similar to the ones found in RPGs, as the system will track the progress of the player and offer rewards. Also, the famous cardboard boxes, which are a trademark to the saga, will appear in multiple versions, adding to the variety of the game.

Overall, MGS: Peace Walker is shaping up to be a very big PSP game and a must have for any MGS fan out there.
