Konami has just detailed its plans for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld platform and, like Capcom, is throwing a lot of its big name franchises onto the future mobile device.

The Nintendo 3DS was officially detailed a few weeks ago, and since then a lot of game companies pledged their support for the 3D-enabled device.

The console will already have a lot of classic Nintendo franchises, from The Legend of Zelda to Kid Icarus, as well as ones from Capcom, including Resident Evil and Street Fighter, but also from Konami.

The Japanese company has just revealed that four of its biggest franchises will be making their way onto the Nintendo 3DS in the near future.

Among them we have a special version of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, previously seen on the PlayStation 2, a special Pro Evolution Soccer title, a remastered version of the arcade classic Contra, as well as a revival of the iconic Frogger arcade game.

“We are delighted to confirm that Konami has four major titles in development for Nintendo’s 3DS system,” offered Kunio Neo, President for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.

“The chance to explore popular franchises such as Metal Gear Solid, Pro Evolution Soccer, Contra and Frogger within a 3D realm is an exciting opportunity, and we cannot wait to share more news in the coming months.”

The Nintendo 3DS is the company's big bet for continued domination of the portable gaming market, and will be the first device to support 3D without the need of special glasses.

Even though this will affect the battery life, a fact admitted by Nintendo itself, interest for the new device is extremely high.

The device is expected to arrive in February in its native Japan, and will arrive in the rest of the world in March.

Expect more and more companies to announce titles for what is looking like the next big thing.
