The development team at Kojima Productions and publisher Konami Digital Entertainment announce that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is set to offer access to exclusive digital content for the new The Phantom Pain.

At the same time gamers will be able to pick the title up for the lower than expected price of 29.99 dollars or Euro when it comes to the retail version and 19.99 dollars or Euro as long as they use digital distribution services on all platforms.

AllGamesBeta quotes the two companies as saying that, "The DLC will only be available in the first batch of the retail version and for a limited period of time for the digital version. The DLC provides players with additional resources for a Mother Base area that will be available in The Phantom Pain."

The story of Ground Zeroes will feature the Mother Base, although the team is not yet ready to offer clear information on how the two titles are being connected.

The development team also says that all prisoners of war and Very Important Persons that the gamer can rescue in Ground Zeroes will be added as staff in The Phantom Pain, giving fans an important advantage during the early game, when supplies and resources are limited.

Character skins that are unlocked can also be carried over between the two titles.

The new Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is also set to include a new second screen app called iDROID, which is designed to create a replica of the in-game map and communications device mix that Big Boss uses.

The app can be downloaded and used on devices that use iOS, Android and Xbox Smart Glass and will be completely free, allowing players to consult the map, call in air support missions and play any of the cassette tapes found throughout Camp Omega.

Konami plans to launch Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current gen devices on March 18 in the United States and two days later in Europe.

The game is designed to serve as a complex prequel for The Phantom Pain and to offer players a taste of the narrative that they will be able to experience.

It is also the first game to use the all new Fox Engine, which is allowing Hideo Kojima to realize his dream of creating a Metal Gear Solid that uses near photorealistic graphics and an open world structure.
