Following the recent trend of incorporating movie star performances into video games, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will star Kiefer Sutherland as Solid Snake's face and voice, in order to deliver a more striking performance, in line with the game's visuals.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is scheduled for launch during Spring 2014 as a standalone feature, serving as a prologue to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Hideo Kojima, the man behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise, has commented on famed actor's Kiefer Sutherland's involvement with the project during an exclusive interview for Xbox Wire.

“It's no longer just about the words that a character speaks, it's about the depth of their facial performance and the expressive tone of their voice. As technology evolves, it's vital that the expressiveness of the characters in the game evolve to match the capabilities of the hardware.

“Kiefer is helping us to raise the bar in that respect, and I'm looking forward to the final result,” the director of Kojima Productions revealed.

The legendary game designer went on to describe the experience players can expect from his latest title. He details that his vision for MSG5 is for it to be a stealth simulator in an open-world environment.

But the open world elements in MSG5 may differ from what most people assume when they think about the concept. It allows players to “freely plan their own routes and experiment with their own unique infiltration strategies. However, at its heart, the gameplay is all about stealth and we don't intend to shift the focus away from that.”

He continued, stating that there was a sizable story to be told, and that he was trying to express it in a new way, different from the linear storytelling techniques used in past installments.

Instead, the story “will come together piece-by-piece based on each player's individual progress through the game.”

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will launch March 18, 2014, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
