14 DAY TRIAL // Many of you must have heard about the legendary Zeiss f/0.7 lenses commissioned by NASA to capture images of the dark side of the moon during the Apollo missions.
Only 10 lenses of this kind were ever made, 6 being sold to NASA, 3 sold to filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and one kept by Carl Zeiss himself.
Until now we could only dream about the possibilities offered by an f/0.7 lens, but using the new Metabones Speed Boosters we can finally capture the world at an f/0.74 aperture.
What exactly is a Metabones Speed Booster, you might ask. Well, these speed boosters were especially designed for the Blackmagic 2.5k Cinema Camera (BMCC) and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC), offering a magnification of 0.64x and 0.58x, respectively.
Both Speed Boosters come with ultra-high index glass and use an advanced 6-element in 4 groups optical design to deliver an unmatched optical performance at record-breaking apertures.
Using the new Speed Booster, you will reduce your BMCC crop factor from 2.39x to 1.53x as well as increasing the speed of any attached lens by 1/3 stops to a maximum aperture of f/0.80. For example, a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens will become an 11.5-22.5mm f/1.1, while a 50mm f/1.2 becomes equivalent with a 32mm f/0.80 lens.
The same goes for the BMPCC Speed Booster that comes with a 0.58x magnification, reducing the camera's crop factor from 2.88x to 1.75x and thus creating the largest aperture optics available at the moment.
In addition to that, the Metabones Speed Boosters significantly increase the lens MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) values, enhancing performance for any mounted lens.
These Speed Booster versions can accommodate any legacy AI/S and modern G FX or DX Nikon lenses on any of the two supported Blackmagic Cinema cameras.
The new Speed Boosters will be available starting this month from the Metabones store and its worldwide dealer network at a price of $489 / €360.
