Melissa McCarthy is definitely riding the wave right now as the hottest comedienne around. With one movie just opening, “Identity Thief,” and several other projects in the pipeline, she’s also getting ready to make her directorial debut.

According to Slash Film, this will happen with a passion project of hers.

“Melissa McCarthy is teaming with her husband Ben Falcone (a.k.a. Air Marshal Jon in Bridesmaids) to direct the road trip comedy Tammy, which the pair also co-wrote and in which McCarthy will star,” the industry publication says.

As McCarthy herself revealed in an older interview, the film tells the story of a fast food worker who decides to travel to Mount Rushmore after realizing her life is slowly but surely falling apart.

She said the story was “so funny, and it also kind of breaks my heart.”

Further details are not known at this time.
