Meizu’s new flagship should arrive towards the end of 2015

Meizu is one of those Chinese companies that are starting to produce more and more interesting products. The company’s last year MX4 and MX4 Pro devices were positively embraced by consumers in Asian markets and not only.

Popular benchmarking application AnTuTu also ranked the MX4 as the most popular Android smartphone of 2014, so Meizu definitely started on a good road.

Anyway, info about Meizu’s upcoming flagship device, the MX5, has surfaced ever since February, when we got hold of the first specifications related to the model. Back then, we hypothesized that the phone maker would probably end up rolling out the device on the market sometime in Q4.

Is this the Meizu MX5?

Well, two months later, a bunch of purported Meizu MX5 photos have surfaced in the wild, supposedly showing the real-life handset (via Chinese website CnBeta).

What we can see in the images is that the alleged MX5 will be bundled with a physical home button very similar to the one found on the MX4 Pro, although this one seems a bit rounder. We’re not told anything about the possibility of a biometric sensor being embedded in there, but it makes sense to assume there is one.

Apart from that, the overall design seems quite reminiscent of what we have come to know from Meizu’s previous flagships. We can spot the same chamfered metal frame and rounded off corners, although a design refresh would have been welcomed in order to better sustain consumer interest in the upcoming flagship.

Alleged Meizu MX5 specs that we know so far

In case you don’t remember what the previous rumors had to say about the upcoming Meizu MX5, we’re taking the opportunity to remind you that the phone is said to arrive with a 5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and an atypical 5:3 aspect ratio).

We were also told that the handset would end up being sustained by a MediaTek chip, although the exact silicone model wasn’t mentioned. We have to assume we’re dealing with the MT6795 here, which packs some very interesting capabilities, like the ability to shoot super slow-motion 1080p video at 480fps.

The handset will be part of the league of smartphones that bundle a hefty 4GB of RAM on board. Last but not least, it appears that the phone will take advantage of a huge 41MP camera with a Nokia PureView sensor running the shots.

It doesn't sound so bad, does it?
