Megan Fox may have been fired from the “Transformers” franchise after a dispute with director Michael Bay, but she could still have the last laugh: recent reports claim she’s considering the role of Batgirl in her own franchise.

In other words, if the report is accurate and Fox does accept the offer, she may soon be what Christian Bale is for Chris Nolan’s “Batman” films: the star of her own franchise.

She’s certainly considering this seriously, sources close to her tell the media, as cited by Showbiz Spy.

“The former Transformers star passed up on Wonder Woman and Super Girl but could don the cape and cowl of Batgirl,” the publication says.

A “Hollywood insider” confirms that Fox is tempted to accept such an offer if one would ever be made to her, because she wouldn’t be happy with playing the sidekick.

“Megan loves the comic book genre but is holding out for the right role. She doesn’t want to be the [hot] sidekick so Batgirl, in a movie of her own,” says the spy.

However, there may be something more to this rumor than meets the eye, Pajiba points out: right now, the only reason Fox is still making headlines is because of rumors attaching her to various projects, because she’s no longer the hot commodity she once was.

Pajiba says publicists often resort to this – to planting rumors in the media – in the hope that they’re now-forgotten clients will somehow become relevant again and be offered movie parts again.

The same could happen here, with Megan Fox and Batgirl, the e-zine argues.

“After she was fired or left Transformers 3 (depending on whose account you believe), there have been a number of rumors attaching Fox to high-profile projects. And after three straight bombs (Jennifer’s Body, Jonah Hex, Passion Play), those rumors are the only thing keeping her name afloat,” Pajiba writes.

“Somebody’s publicist clearly knows how to get a clients name out in the world: The mere mention of a bat character is enough to ensure a day’s coverage on the pop-culture blogs. And look! It worked,” the e-zine says.

If that’s the case with this rumor, it means Fox and her publicist are now desperate to get her working again.

If not, then fans can only hope to see the stunner again on the silver screen, this time rocking the iconic Batgirl outfit.
