14 DAY TRIAL // Fans got their first glimpse of Jane of the Volturi clan in the “Meet Jacob Black” trailer that Summit Entertainment released a while ago. Just hours ago, Summit Entertainment started gradually releasing photos of the most deadly of all vampires, the Volturi – they have eventually been put together over at Yahoo! Movies, but not before making the rounds on the Internet separately.
As MTV also points out, the photos show that the wait was truly worth it: the Volturi, even if they don’t all look like some fans might have imagined them, have that certain deadly, yet appealing, air about them that makes them so dangerous. As those who’ve read Stephenie Meyer’s books must know, they are centuries-old vampires who act as rulers (“royalty,” they’re called at one point) over all vampires, making sure their secret does not get out and eliminating all those who might draw too much unwanted attention to their kind.
The Volturi are very powerful and, most importantly, merciless. They rely on their gifts to get their way done and would stop at nothing if that’s what it takes to protect their secret. All released “New Moon” stills with them managed to convey this underlining threat that their presence always suggested. Those that get the most attention in the books – and will undoubtedly do so in the films as well – are Alec, Aro, Caius, Marcus, Jane, Demetri, Felix and Heidi. The pair Jane – Alec stands out in “New Moon” because they are both so young. However, this doesn’t influence their special abilities in any way, Jane being one of the most dangerous vampires for her ability to inflict pain by tricking the mind of the victim into thinking it perceives it. Alec is not that far behind in terms of being able to instill fear in whoever lays their eyes on him.
“The Volturi were waiting to change Alec and his twin sister Jane until they were older, but humans tried to burn them at the stake, so the Volturi were forced to ‘change’ them while they were young. Since acquiring Alec and Jane, the Volturi have seldom needed to fight – their victims are simply slaughtered.” Meyer says of the pair on twins in the novel.
