The Raspberry Pi was able to act as a means to turn TVs into smart TVs ever since its inception. That's actually why it became so popular really, despite having been designed as a means to teach students programming.

Now, the same device, or whatever incarnation it is in now, has been provided with a media center starter kit by the Element14 Community.

Known as "XBMC Solution," it consists of the Raspbmc software, a rechargeable RF controller (with a small keyboard and touchpad), and HDMI and Ethernet cables.

The Raspbmc software is installed on a bootable SD card (XBMC runs off a lightweight Linux distro).

Once set up, the kit allows the Raspberry Pi to play video and music from the Internet or the home network.

The price in the US is of $49.99 / €37.34 according to Engadget.
