Publisher Electronic Arts has announced an open beta stage will be implemented for its upcoming first person shooter Medal of Honor, set to begin on the PC on October 4, allowing gamers to experience a segment of the multiplayer modes that the game will offer, with the end date for the stage set for October 7.

Players will be able to the Kunar Base map in Sector Control mode and the Shahikot Mountains area in Combat Mission.

Frank Gibeau, who is the president of the EA Games Label, says, “The Open Beta of the Medal of Honor multiplayer mode will allow players to sample the authenticity and adrenaline-fueled action that the full game will offer on October 12.”

He added, “We also hope that by offering the Multiplayer Open Beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game. The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for American and Allied soldiers -- this game is no exception.”

The open beta comes after Electronic Arts hosted a closed testing stage for Medal of Honor back in June, with thousands of gamers invited to tell the developers at DICE what areas of the video game still need working on.

Among the changes implemented as a result of player feedback are improvements to the hit detection mechanics, changes to how weapons are picked up from killed enemies and modifications to how support powers work.

Since that closed beta stage Medal of Honor also received a big graphics update and changes were made to the upgrade system, making it more challenging to reach the Tier 1 Operator status.

Medal of Honor came under attack for allowing players to play as the Taliban in the multiplayer section, fighting against NATO and United States forces.

GameStop has decided not to sell the game on or near military bases.

Medal of Honor will be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC on October 19.
