Developer Danger Close and publisher Electronic Arts have announced that development is ongoing on a sequel to the first-person shooter Medal of Honor, with the team saying that the focus will again be on portraying the experiences that individual soldiers go through on the battlefield.

A statement on the official blog of the developer says, “Since our launch last October, we've studied, listened and absorbed much of your feedback and are very excited to be marching forward on the next title. We can't wait to tell you more about it, so check back often to the website and the fan page on Facebook.

When Electronic Arts announced its results for the last quarter of 2010, which included the launch of Medal of Honor, it mentioned that the game managed to sell more than 5 million units all over the world.

The development team suggested that, as long as sales managed to get over 3 million copies, a sequel would be created.

The team at Danger Close has not offered any clear details on what gamers can expect from Medal of Honor 2 and has not said when the game might come out.

The title is also a temporary one and closer to release Medal of Honor will probably get a catchy tag line.

The rebooted Medal of Honor was created with input from developer DICE, which created the multiplayer element of the game, but this initial announcement does not mention whether Medal of Honor 2 will get any content from DICE.

Electronic Arts has repeatedly stated that it aims to get the first-person shooter crown back from Activision and from Call of Duty and the two main franchises that could do this are Medal of Honor and Battlefield.

DICE is currently working on Battlefield 3 and CEO John Riccitiello recently stated that the game could be the Game of the Year for 2011.
