He takes the pain killers, so yeah, it's Max Payne

I didn't know a Max Payne movie - based on the Xbox and PC third-person shooter - was in the works. Honestly, I didn't. Who's going to throw the first rock? Don't answer that! Anyway, as it so happened that I saw a little bit of the game, I can tell you from an outsider's perspective that it's not so spectacular. One accurate part is the one with the pain killers. Not that it doesn't follow that game's plot or anything, but there's too little stuff in it defined as "teasing."

And since I read a couple of articles on the same piece of news, saying that it's the first time people have heard about a Max Payne movie too , I decided to search Wikipedia for some answers. Here's what I found:

"Years after the release of both Max Payne games, an independent film company decided to take matters into their own hands regarding the Max Payne game to movie. The movie takes places in between Game I and game II. A behind the scenes look as well as the official trailer have been released. IF the project does well, 20th Century Fox may use Nigel Billing in their version of the Max Payne game to movie, though 20th Century Fox's version would not be an in between chapter, but an actual remake of the first game."

So far so good. And then:

"It has been confirmed through The Hollywood Reporter that 20th Century Fox has bought the rights to bring the game to film. The Max Payne movie was originally slated for release in April 2007, but production has been delayed. It is unknown when filming will begin on the movie adaptation and when it will subsequently be released. The writing credits currently include Sam Lake (the writer and actor for the original Max Payne series) and Shawn Ryan, whose credits include writing for The Shield and The Unit." So all this stuff was known well before they even thought of releasing the trailer and it's only now that some of us find out about it too. Maybe they're trying to keep it as secret as possible and then launch it like a rocket to the moon. Either way, there's little chance to see it by the winter holidays.
