Released as a 1008.8MB combo update and a 434.4MB delta update, Mac OS X 10.6.7 build 10J858 is now available for download to select Apple developers who are now being told to focus their testing efforts on the Safari web browser.

Finally delivering an updated set of focus areas with no known issues listed in the seed notes, Mac OS X 10.6.7 build 10J858, Apple is asking developers to look into the Mac App Store, Airport, Bonjour, SMB and Graphics Drivers, in addition to Safari.

Mac OS X 10.6.7 will be one of the last, if not the last incremental software update to Apple’s aging Snow Leopard operating system.

As it did with Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, Apple seemingly plans to close the case on Snow Leopard with a final retouching maintenance update, as suggested by the seed notes accompanying OS X 10.6.7 betas handed to developers starting January 20.

The first Mac OS X 10.6.7 beta was seeded to developers just weeks after Mac OS X 10.6.6 had become available packing the highly-anticipated Mac App Store.

It is believed that the months to follow will shift some developing resources away from the aging Snow Leopard over to Lion, which is rumored to revamp the graphical user interface by delivering iOS-like elements.

Cupertino has scheduled a Summer 2011 official release of its next-generation Mac OS, and needs all its developers working at full throttle to ensure a spotless launch.

Perhaps worth noting for our readers interested in OS X development, references to Mac OS X Lion have recently emerged on Amazon.co.uk where several book listings indicate that Apple’s next-generation desktop OS is due out around mid-Summer.

Despite the fact that Apple is yet to set an exact release date for the new desktop OS, books like Mac OS X Lion For Dummies and Mac OS X Lion All-in-One For Dummies are allegedly shipping on July 28th.
