Matthew McConaughey opens up about fitness, says staying healthy is his life

Matthew McConaughey is in the best shape possible and that’s mostly due to the fact that, when he’s not working, he’s working out. In the April 2011 issue of Men’s Fitness, Matthew talks a bit more about his exercise routine.

As his fans must already know, working out is not just a thing that Matthew does at regular hours – the man simply loves to keep moving and doing outdoor activities whenever he gets the chance.

This would also explain the countless photos of him jogging, doing yoga at the beach or working out in various ways available online.

For a very long time there, all fans would see of Matthew were photos of him engaging in some sort of physical activity, which even prompted jokes with celebrity bloggers that he was considering changing careers.

In the interview with Men’s Fitness, Matthew says that he is not an athlete but that he’s come to regard working out as a lifestyle.

Plus, he’s also realized that his love of a healthy body helps him in his career as an actor, one in which a lot of emphasis is placed on looks.

“It’s always been a lifestyle. Then it became something that was like, ‘Hey, it’s also good for my job.’ I’m not a professional athlete, but I have a job where I like to look good and be as healthy as possible,” Matthew shares.

Another thing that he loves about working out is that it allows him to spend time with his longtime girlfriend and the mother of his two children, Camila Alves, who is just as health-obsessed as he is.

“If you can be mentally stimulated by the workout and find out how to get through it, it’s more fun. We went up to 3,000 feet and I had on hiking shoes and I was all set up and ready to go and she was wearing Havaianas sandals and a white skirt,” Matthew recalls of one particular time they went on a hike together.

“I came down to the bottom of that hill afterward and had blood on me, muddy as all get-out, and that girl didn’t have a speck of dust on her,” he adds.
