They came to the attention of the world thanks to their reality show on TLC called “Little People, Big World” but now they're going their separate ways. Matt and Amy Roloff decided that it was in everyone's best interest to get a trial separation.

According to a statement the couple released to People, they would be separated as a husband and wife, but they wouldn't be far apart. “Though we have weathered many storms together, we recently made the tough decision to engage in a trial separation,” they claim in their joined statement.

They also take the time to explain the new living arrangements which are meant to outline the fact that they are not cutting off all ties at this point, “Matt remains living on the farm in our guest house and we work together everyday on the farm, on our business endeavors and most importantly, raising our amazing children.”

Matt and Amy have four children together, twins Jeremy and Zack, both 23, Molly, 20, and Jacob, 17, all of whom were featured on the reality show, and whom the public got to see on their day-to-day basis. Out of the six members of the family, only three have been diagnosed with dwarfism.

The split is said to have come after a long and tumultuous year for the family, and so Matt and Amy both decided that they were going to take some time off. The decision was made last year at Thanksgiving.

“Amy and I had a lot of tension, so right around Thanksgiving, I thought I would move over to the bridal house for a little bit and we'll try that. Amy and I stuck it out for years and years when maybe we shouldn't have. I never quite felt at home in my own home so something needed to change,” Matt revealed.

For her part, Amy admits that both had their own faults and that she is saddened by the way the events turned out, “I think what Matt and I failed to do over many, many years is learned to live together,” says Amy. “It's not my choice for him to leave. I am saddened by it. We don't have a plan as far as how we are going to work this out, so it's not going to be easy.”

It's nice to see that the couple can put their differences behind them and focus on raising their children and continuing their business. They also expressed their gratitude for the support many people showed them over these trying times.
