Since the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie was made official, fans have been campaigning for Matt Bomer or Ian Somerhalder as leads. Instead, the studio picked Charlie Hunnam for the role but, now that he’s officially out of the picture, Bomer really stands a chance.

Based on the extremely successful trilogy of novels by E.L. James, “Fifty Shades” has as central character the handsome, mysterious and deeply disturbed Christian Grey, who falls for Anastasia Steele and initiates her in the art of lovemaking – and not only.

Fans hated Hunnam as lead, and some say this is why he changed his mind and dropped out, though the official line is that his schedule on “Sons of Anarchy” made it impossible for him to do the movie too.

As we speak, fans are rallying on social media, forums and comment sections of various publications to make their voices heard: they want Matt Bomer for the part and will settle for no one else.

When Hunnam was cast, the studio said that, while it was mindful of the fans, it could not make a decision solely based on their wish. Could this change today?

Considering that the film doesn’t stand a chance if it doesn’t have fan approval, I’d say that yes, it could – but only if the fans are loud enough to make studio bosses understand they won’t be seeing the film with any other actor. So, if you call yourself a fan, now’s the time to go on the record with your opinion.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” will be out in August 2014.
