Around 10 million IPs were recorded as sending large numbers of requests towards the DNS servers of UK2.NET, one of the most important hosting companies in the UK.

The organization’s representatives told The Register that they’d never witnessed such a big distributed denial-of-service attack before.

During the time of the hit, some of their customers may have found that their sites weren’t working, but thankfully, the firm quickly managed to get the systems back on track.

“We took various actions to trace this back to the IP addresses that they were attacking from so once we identified that we were able to put in mitigating activities to reduce it down and managed to get it off our network by about 3am,” UK2.NET’s Chief Operating Officer, Martin Baker, said.

Today, some customers may still be experiencing difficulties, but by tonight everything should be back to normal.
