Two Chinese companies, TowerJazz and Gpixel, have teamed up to produce the GMAX3005 sensor. While we get news about sensors all the time, this particular one is special, since is said to be the highest CMOS image sensor in the world.

The GMAX3005 is a massive high-resolution 150-megapixel sensor, but don’t expect it to see in high-end DSLRs, as tempting as that might sound. The sensor has been designed to go into medical and industrial deployments, so it could even save your life at some point.

Going back to the specifications, the sensor’s GMAX3005 chip can run at ten frames per second when in full-frame. Of course, even higher frame rates can be achieved when using row-windowing mode (via Photographyblog).

Other specifications include a dynamic range of 75.4dB, over 70% quantum efficiency at 550nm wavelength. Furthermore, the sensor is said to be quite silent, with a noise level of less than 4e-.

Gpixel says the sensor will prove to be ideal for applications that require high sensitivity, thus making long exposure possible even without active cooling.

The dimensions of the sensor are 167.6 mm x 30.1 mm / 6.59 x 1.1 inches and when in use, it should consume less than 2.5W when shooting in full resolution. The Gpixel titan CMOS sensor will be made available later this year.
