A transcript of BioWare’s Comic-Con 2014 presentation of the upcoming entry in the Mass Effect series is now online, but as expected, it’s hardly packed with revelatory information regarding the game.

There are however some new pieces of information in there, such as the possibility of vehicle customization. Series Producer Mike Gamble has explained that the Mako that players will be seeing in Mass Effect 4 will not be the one they’re used to, but a more agile version of it.

He has also noted that they had a lot of help coming up with the design, and that it might even be able to jump or hover, as it’s gone through a lot of iteration.

He has revealed that the Mako is going to be a fundamental piece of the upcoming game, a fast-response vehicle that will enable players to easily navigate the planet’s surface and to explore new places.

“In terms of customization, it’s been something we’ve been looking at, sure. We feel as though, if you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the vehicles [that] they should reflect you as a player and customization is one element of that as well," Gamble has commented on the equipment personalization options.

Of course, this implies that there will be more cosmetic options for playable characters as well, and Gamble has also noted that the game’s artists have been building everything in layers, which means that gamers will be able to take some pieces of armor off, and wear the suits as their casual outfits, and that level of complexity and customization applies to everything that you will be wearing.

He has also informed that once again that gamers will only be able to play the game as a human, and that there will be some new races as well as many returning ones, and that some gameplay sections might have you playing as aliens, although he has refrained from divulging any outright information at the time.

“The theme is [that] we want to create new experiences for the player, but we still want to bring in elements of what you know and love about the previous trilogy that might include certain characters and it might not. So guaranteed, either way that we end up going you’re going to see a certain amount of the old with the new,” Gamble has concluded.

The inclusion of new races in a series that has its lore pretty much established sounds intriguing, especially when taking into account the fact that BioWare has already mentioned that Mass Effect 4 will take place during the same time period that the initial trilogy took place in.
