The cooperative Galaxy at War multiplayer mode from Mass Effect 3 will have a full-fledged in-game voice chat system, as well as the full weapon customization mechanics, which are already included in the title’s single-player mode.

Seeing as how Mass Effect 3 is set to appear early next month, BioWare, its developer, is unveiling more and more details about it.

After mentioning quite a few things about the story mode in Mass Effect 3, BioWare has now started confirming some more features about the Galaxy at War multiplayer mode, including the presence of an in-game voice chat and a full-fledged weapon customization system.

“Communication is key to an effective co-op squad in Mass Effect 3,” said Mass Effect 3 producer Billy Buskell. “We have in-game voice chat in co-op for all 3 platforms. Squads that communicate, coordinate, and strategize together will find that they are much better suited to take down the enemy threat.”

Players will also be able to fully customize their favorite weapons in Galaxy at War, just like in the story mode, according to Mass Effect 3 combat designer Corey Gaspur.

“Players can literally handcraft their favorite weapons around their playstyle, build and preference in both MP/SP. With over 40+ weapons and 50+ weapon mods in Mass Effect 3 we pushed very hard to ensure there is zero difference between weapons/mods in Single Player vs. Multiplayer, they are the exact same.”

Besides the customization of their weapons, players are also going to be able to equip all sorts of powers, no matter their actual character class, so a Soldier, for example, can wield some biotic powers usually reserved for Adepts.

Last but not least, in order to soothe the worries of fans, BioWare has also confirmed that a lobby system for public and private will be set up before you start the actual match, in which players can talk and elaborate strategies.

You can try out the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer Galaxy at War mode through the recently released demo, if you have already redeemed a Battlefield 3 online pass. If not, you’re going to have to wait until February 17, when multiplayer access is given to everyone.
