Load times will decrease

Over the years, developers have elaborated interesting ways to mask the loading sequences in order to prevent breaking the flow of a game and ruining the whole experience for players. From story sequences to car rides, we've seen quite a lot of systems being developed in order to mask the infamous black screen with loading on one side.

Recently, one of the games that gained the most negative feedback about its load times is Mass Effect, which masked them through elevator rides. A lot of Commander Shepards adventures were intertwined with seemingly endless elevator rides, making a lot of fans complain to BioWare, the company that developed it.

Now, it seems that those complaints will be addressed in the next release, which will have a completely new system for the loading mechanic. Elevator rides will disappear, at least according to the executive director of Mass Effect 2, Casey Hudson, who talked to MTV Multiplayer about this change in the upcoming title.

“We have a completely new system to handle transitions between areas that speeds the load times and turns the loads themselves into part of the game experience. It’s one of many points of feedback we’ve heard and directly responded to in enhancing the gameplay in Mass Effect 2.”

While not particularly long, the elevator rides did break the flow, as you were stuck with a few of your companions with whom you didn't really have much to talk about. Hopefully, this will make a lot of Mass Effect fans let out a sigh of relief and more excited about the game that is scheduled for an early 2010 release.
