While Mass Effect fans are certainly excited about the recently announced Mass Effect 3, PlayStation 3 gamers are also getting ready to experience BioWare's science fiction RPG for the first time, in the form of Mass Effect 2.

Even if the game was surrounded by quite a lot of secrecy, things are a bit clearer now, as the Canadian development studio announced both a release date for a demo of the game, as well as a release date for the actual game.

In case you want to try before you buy Mass Effect 2, then you'd better access the PlayStation Store on December 21, in the USA, and one day later, in Europe, as the demo will be available for download.

No word on what actual gameplay will be included in the demo, but it's a safe bet that BioWare will include something from the opening segments of the RPG in order to lure in gamers to purchase the full game.

Speaking of the full game, Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 will be officially launched on January 18, in North America, and on January 21 in Europe.

As you all know, the PS3 version of the sci-fi RPG will include lots of additional content, including previously released Mass Effect 2 downloadable content like Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armor.

You will also be able to download two other pieces of DLC through the Cerberus Network, the game's own online interface, the Zaeed and the Firewalker packs.

An interactive comic book will be included in this edition of Mass Effect, and will allow players to make choices that will have an effect on the actual gameplay of Mass Effect 2.

This introductory portion will be offered instead of the original Mass Effect 1 game, as the rights to it are still owned by Microsoft that doesn't really want to offer anything to the PlayStation 3 platform.
