In the United Kingdom

Mass Effect 2, the space-based role playing experience with strong cover-based shooting elements delivered by BioWare and Electronic Arts, has managed to have quite the impact, despite being out for just a week in the United Kingdom.

The videogame has managed to top the software chart and seems set for a good run, after getting more than 40 perfect scores from reviewers and being the second highest Xbox 360 title in the history of consoles at the moment.

Surprisingly, Just Dance slid down to second position, which means that it is still a more appealing sales proposition for gamers in the United Kingdom than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, from Infinity Ward and Activision, which continues to sit in third place and might be ripe for a price drop.

A new entry managed to break into the top ten in fourth place, with Massive Action Games from Sony proving that 256 man battles on large battlefields between three factions are an interesting idea that might gain a significant following. But even with two new entries in the top five, Wii Sport Resort from Nintendo cannot be budged and it’s keeping its number five slot.

Wii Fit Plus succeeded in landing in sixth place after coming in three places higher last week, while FIFA 10 dropped one place to arrive in seventh and might slide even more as part of its audience could make a move to the newly announced FIFA Online, which is now in closed beta stage.

New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii is in the eighth position, also down one place, with Army of Two: The 40th Day from Electronic Arts registering the biggest drop of the week, five places to ninth. The top ten is closed down by James Cameron's Avatar: The Game from Ubisoft, which is banking on the success of the 3D movie.
