Less than a week ago, word got out that Mary-Kate Olsen had gotten engaged to her beau of almost 2 years, banker Olivier Sarkozy, half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. As it turns out, this wasn’t the first time he asked her to be his wife.

Mary-Kate and Olivier have been inseparable in recent months, which repeatedly led to lots of speculation about an upcoming engagement. It happened just recently, and photographic evidence available online suggests that he might have popped the question with one of the biggest – and probably most expensive – rings ever.

However, insiders say for Us Weekly, this wasn’t the first time that Olivier asked for Mary-Kate’s hand in marriage: he had proposed before, but he was always turned down because she wanted to make sure their romance was going in the right direction.

“He tried about a year ago, and she wasn't ready. She didn't need to be wined and dined. She wanted to make sure he would be good to her,” says an insider.

According to another spy talking to the celebrity publication, now that Mary-Kate has understood that she’s ready for marriage, she is also in a rush to get pregnant and start a family with the man of her dreams ASAP.

“[They] are talking about trying to get pregnant. Mary-Kate's family thinks Olivier is the best thing to happen to her. They love him,” the source explains.

Mary-Kate is 27, and Olivier is 44. He already has 2 children from a previous relationship, and paparazzi shots confirm that the former child actress usually spends a lot of time with the kids, while the father is around as well.

She and Olivier live together in New York City and are always pictured together out and about and, very frequently, at basketball games.

The first indication that their relationship was getting really serious was when the first engagement rumors started to make the rounds, back in December. At the time, it was said that Mary-Kate wanted to pick her own engagement ring and that she was shopping for it in NYC.

Speaking of the ring, the star is now in Paris for Fashion Week and, as she arrived at the Louis Vuitton show, she offered a glimpse at her huge new bauble, which is believed to be an oversized opal surrounded by smaller diamonds, set in yellow gold.
