If there’s anything we’ve learned from the many Marvel movies coming out these past few years is that nothing is ever random in the cinematic universe they’ve built. And nothing ever happens without a reason.

Take for instance the “Avengers” post-credits Easter egg, in which Thanos made his first appearance. If you’re going to the cinema this weekend to see “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which is being hailed by critics and fans alike as one of the most fun and beautiful looking films ever released by the studio, and you wait until after the end credits, you will see him again.

This time, he’s being played by Josh Brolin, and because he made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 during the Marvel panel, where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was being discussed, we might as well assume we’ll see him again in 2015.

So Marvel is building up hype, preparing for the day when Thanos will finally get a meatier role.

The other day, a leaked photo showed Thanos’ cameo in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and Marvel has now released the official hi-res photo. It shows the Mad Titan on his throne, looking menacing and absolutely indestructible.

At Comic-Con, Kevin Feige, Marvel president, has said that Thanos is “not just a vocal performance. It’s a facial performance, like Mark Ruffalo with Hulk,” ScreenCrush reports.

Asked when fans might get a bit more screentime with this particular villain, he answered with, “I think Thanos does what he wants and shows up when he wants to, and I’m not gonna tell him otherwise.” Oh, but you know that this moment is coming, and when it does, it will be memorable, you can count on it.
