After Marvel announced that it was killing off Wolverine and turning Thor into a woman, they are now continuing with their genocide with another beloved comic book series that has been going on for decades (since 1961 to be precise) and has seen several changes – The Fantastic Four.

The report comes from Bleeding Cool News and they claim that Marvel is going to cancel the Fantastic Four. The reason for that seems to be purely economic – comic book sales have been lagging behind, despite the fact that the studio relaunched the series with a number of high-profile creators.

The Fantastic Four is going out with a bang – a triple feature issue

The plan is to have a massive last issue and this is confirmed by a solicitation in the Hachette June calendar, the main bookstore distributor for Marvel.

The solicitation reads, “The End Is Fourever! Witness the closing act on the First Family of the Marvel Universe! The Invaders meet the Fantastic Four as the hunt for Reed Richards and the missing kids of the Future Foundation continues. Meanwhile the mastermind behind everything unveils his ultimate plan.”

“But how does Franklin Richards factor in? And how Does this all lead to … The End?! Collecting Fantastic Four #642-644 and the Triple Sized Final Issue 645!” the text ends.

So it seems that the publishers are planning to end the series with a triple issue at number 645. The comic in question is expected to hit shelves in April 2015, which is going to coincide with the last ever Fantastic Four comic ever made.

Marvel is denying the end of the series, tells fans to stop the rumors

Marvel has hit back on this claim by having executive editor Tom Breevort tell the media that fans should “stop reading rumor sites.”

But the scandal has already hit the media and there is little chance it's going to stop anytime soon. Because of the radical modifications made in the past year by Marvel, it's no wonder people are freaking out about another popular comic book franchise getting shut down.

The question one should ask next is where that leaves the movie adaptation. As you might know, there is currently a “Fantastic Four” reboot in the works and the fate of the movie has been also debated. There was at least one major snag when the director and the entire rumored cast were let go and replacements brought in.

Now that the source material, the comic book series, is allegedly being killed off, there's not much point in having more movies come out. Fans are demanding answers.
