Few rumors that trickle from behind the scene of the Hollywood studios turn out to be true, but it this case, the gossip was spot on. It looks like the 44-year-old actor Paul Rudd, known mostly for his comedic roles, will be playing the role of Henry (Hank) Pym in Marvel's superhero movie “Ant-Man.”

This comes as an interesting choice on behalf of Marvel, who may be looking to give the character a little bit of a comedic edge. Both Rudd and the movie's director Edgar Wright are known for their sense of humor.

Like in the case of actor Robert Downey Jr. who hadn't done any action movie previous to the Iron Man series, Paul Rudd will definitely bring in a twist to the serious scientist who turns into a superhero.

“The casting of Rudd represents the actor that Marvel had long ago identified as its first choice to play Ant-Man,” Marvel said in a statement, “continuing the studio’s desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes.”

Kevin Feige, a studio chief for Marvel said that they “knew early on that [they] had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy.”

There still isn't any word on the film's plot. The script has been developed by director Edgar Wright who has been working on it since 2006.

The Ant-Man comic book features brilliant scientist Henry (Hank) Pym who develops a special serum that allows him to change his dimension. He becomes the crime-fighter Ant-Man, armed with a helmet that allows him to communicate with ants. He is one of Marvel's earliest heroes and also a founding members of the Avengers.

The film is slated for release in July 2015.
