14 DAY TRIAL // As fans of Leonard DiCaprio are painfully aware, he’s been snubbed the Academy Award on more than one occasion and, though he’s starred in many box office hits and critically acclaimed movies, he’s yet to go home with his own Oscar. That could be due to his wild partying reputation, according to Martin Scorsese.
The legendary director (who, by the way, announced his intention of retiring from making movies soon) has worked with DiCaprio on various projects, all of them a hit with critics and the fans.
He believes that, if the Academy has been snubbing Leo, that’s because he won’t stop acting like an immature 20something who parties around the clock, bedding models left and right, the National Enquirer claims in its December 23 print edition (story via CB).
While the veracity of this story is highly doubtful, the fact that DiCaprio’s reputation is preceding him isn’t. In the blogosphere, for instance, whenever he splits from his latest girlfriend, headlines almost invariably read, “DiCaprio has picked up the Victoria’s Secret catalog once more to look for another lover,” or something along these lines.
Scorsese too has picked up on this, and he’s warned his friend and longtime collaborator that, if he wants to be taken seriously as an actor, he needs to act in a more mature fashion.
“Martin told Leo he’s as gifted a performer as he’s ever worked with, but at his age he should have won two Oscars by now. Instead, Leo has been shut out by the actors and Hollywood people who cast the Oscar votes,” an insider explains for the tab.
“He told Leo he should get serious about his life and stop hanging out with hoodlums, trying to bed every girl who catches his eye and going out partying all the time,” the source continues.
However, despite pressure from all sides to lead a more settled-down life, DiCaprio isn’t ready to say goodbye to his current lifestyle just yet. “Leo still loves hitting the clubs and partying it up with his posse. He likes his life as it is,” another source says.
