In fact, Australia would probably be the only place they'd want to visit while on Earth

Australia has recently managed to put the Great Wall of China, the ancient Egyptian pyramids and all other stunning monuments to shame.

This is because, according to some scientists, this country would be the first (and most likely the only) place on Earth that Martians would ever consider visiting.

Provided that they were real and willing to spend their holidays on our planet, that is.

Alpha Galileo Foundation says that Australia's red center is highly rich in opal, a gemstone that formed in these regions after they were exposed to a process known as acidic weathering.

This process has also been documented to shape out the surface of Mars, hence the researchers' speculating that Australia's center would remind Martians of their own home.

More so since Australia's Great Artesian Basin has sandstones similar to those found on the surface of Mars, and even a color not all that different from that of the Red Planet.

In other words: this central part of Australia is currently the most accurate terrestrial analogue for Mars' surface.

Here's hoping it'll be a while before Martians figure these things out and start building 5-star resorts in Australia.
