Following their being asked and refusing to build a Death Star, high officials in the United States might soon have to decide whether or not they are ready and willing to list climate change and global warming as enemies of the state and treat them accordingly.

This is because, on January 13, actor Mark Rufallo started an online petition asking the White House to “declare war on climate change.”

“We, the people, demand the President of the United States and its legislative body recognize Climate Change as great and Grave a threat to this nation as they would any other aggressive enemy,” reads Mark Rufallo's petition.

Furthermore, “We demand that the President and Congress act against Climate Change as they have acted against Saddam Husein, Bin Laden, and Hitler for that matter.”

The petition aims to raise at least 25,000 votes by February 12 at the latest, and people have thus far proved quite interested in signing it.

Thus, Mark Rufallo's demand already has more than 2,300 supporters, and odds are that many more will soon follow.

The actor hopes that, once his and the American people's request makes it all the way to Barack Obama's desk, he will be left with no choice except promote the country's use of renewable energy sources and phase out the burning of fossil fuels.

“We demand a National Energy Policy that quickly begins to wean us off of Carbon Based fuels and expedites the inevitable and necessary transition to Clean Energy.”

“We demand that our leaders act on the recommendations coming from an overwhelming majority of the scientific community to halt Climate Change and save the lives of untold millions,” Mark Rufallo wrote in this petition.

Seeing how, as previously reported, the year 2012 was the hottest on record for the US, it is quite likely that, unlike the Death Star petition, this celebrity's request will not be so easily dispatched by the White House.
