14 DAY TRIAL // That Chelsea Handler has a particular brand of humor is no secret but, apparently, Marion Cotillard thinks it’s extremely offensive and coarse. In fact, after meeting the talk show host, she was left with the impression that all American women are the same, according to a new report.
Handler and the French actress met in late October at an event organized by Elle magazine. Also there was Reese Witherspoon, who is good friends with both stars – and it was Chelsea’s behavior towards Reese that horrified Marion, Star magazine claims in its latest print issue (story via CB).
In April this year, Reese and her husband were arrested after getting drunk and getting behind the wheel. When police tried to cuff her husband, the actress proved a genuine nuisance, repeatedly getting out of the car to cause a ruckus and even pulling the “don’t you know who I am?” card when the officer asked her to turn around to be cuffed.
Shortly after news (and video footage) of the arrest got out, Handler had a field day with making fun of her friend. According to the tab, she pulled a similar stunt at the Elle event, which made Marion wonder out loud why Reese would ever stand to have such a “friend” around.
“Some jokes don’t translate! Beloved French actress Marion Cotillard was ‘totally horrified’ when Chelsea Handler roasted pal Reese Witherspoon at Elle Magazine’s Women In Hollywood event on October 21,” Star writes.
“Marion barely contained her revulsion at Chelsea’s jokes about Reese’s drunken arrest. She was aghast that someone of Reese’s status would be ridiculed in such a public way and she thinks American women are vulgar and coarse,” an insider says.
That Chelsea should not make of her friend in public is one thing, and Marion is right to be shocked that the actress would stand for it. However, to overgeneralize and think that all American women are just like Chelsea is just ignorant, at best, voices online are saying.
