Marines on a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina have snatched up a giant tiger shark, weighing 700 pounds (317 kg).

The specimen was caught by six officers who had traveled to the area for a bachelor party. They described bringing it on the boat without any form of equipment. The shark was reeled in 3 miles (4.8 km) from the beach.

“When we caught him, we actually handled this shark with no gun, no harpoon. … We tied a rope noose on her tail. We drug her backwards, which caused her to drown,” boat captain Richard Long describes.

The groom himself brought in the 14-foot (4.6-m) tiger shark. It took two hours to reel in the beast, Fish Game reported.

Instead of releasing it, the Marines decided to keep the shark as a reminder of the bachelor party.
