14 DAY TRIAL // Because of the age difference between them and the fact that, until she met him, she seemed a very sweet, non-goth kind of girl, Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood have always been considered one of showbiz’s oddest couples. That’s not to say though that they are not destined to be together, especially since, right now, they’re giving their relationship another try, as Manson himself confirms in an interview with Metal Hammer.
Speaking of his most recent album, “The High End of Low,” and of the things that have changed in his life in recent months, the shock rocker proudly announces that he and ex-flame Evan Rachel Wood are back together – although, in fairness, he does make it sound like it’s no big deal. As fans already know, the two stars have been on and off ever since Manson’s divorce from burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese.
“I think I’m not afraid to be me.” Manson says when asked how he found his way back from his latest identity crisis. “Sometimes [it] happens when you get to this point in your career, and there are so many things that have happened and influences that you’ve had, besides the influences of the things that have inspired you. Sometimes you feel awkward being what you’re best at, you feel like you have to be something new. But I think that a lot of people will agree that me being me at my best [is what] I need to be. I think that that really paid off because I’m back with Evan, that’s kind of breaking news, you can be the first one to say that.” he adds.
On a musical level too, changes have taken place, Mason also reveals. For one, he’s no longer with his old record label, which means more creative freedom and no more limits in terms of what can and what can’t be done from now on. His upcoming material, for instance, will certainly be different from his previous work, in that it will be more romantic and “self-abusive,” Manson explains.
“We’ve just been released from our record contract with Interscope so I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices – the music videos – things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they clearly wouldn’t have allowed me to make that video. So we started writing new songs on the road – a bit like [David Bowie’s album] ‘Aladdin Sane’ – I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [expected].” the rocker says.
