Jamaica show proves she isn’t even pretending anymore

Mariah Carey has had some issues this past year, and occasionally, they seem to transpire into her art, leading to disastrous live performances that make of her the butt of all jokes online. The same happened over the weekend, when the diva traveled to Jamaica for the 2015 Jazz and Blues Festival.

It is a well-known fact that Mariah is relying on playback now more than ever: whether it’s because she can’t hit the same notes she could when she was younger or because she’s getting lazy or is no longer able to perform for such long stretches without pausing, she does it. And she does it a lot.

In a context in which most pop artists either use a backup track or shameless lip-synch their entire routines, that’s not as scandalous as it would have been some years ago, even if it involves Mariah Carey, a singer who still likes to pretend like she’s singing live.

On this particular occasion, she didn’t even bother to keep up appearances at one point, as the video below will confirm. Mariah forgot lyrics, skipped cues and was completely out of synch with the track with her voice, that at one point she seemed to be giving up completely.

Then she probably realized this would not look good for her, so she started fumbling with her ear piece, acting as if there was some technical issue she could later blame.

You can see the whole thing below, in the first half of the video. In the second part, she was finally on tune, but she was still lip-synching. She also sang some parts live, but not all.
