Yesterday, Fox announced the new judges lineup for the upcoming season of American Idol, which premieres in January, with the stars on the panel having started work for the auditions stage. Trouble has already reared its ugly head, says a new report.

Back in August, when Mariah Carey was the only judge officially attached for the new season and speculation had it that Nicki Minaj was deep in negotiations for a job (which turned out to be true), there were reports that Mariah wasn’t exactly thrilled by the idea.

She couldn’t imagine how there’d be enough room on AI for two divas, sources close to the production said, as we informed you.

As it turns out, Mariah was right, TMZ reports: she and Nicki already are at each other’s throats.

“Carey and Nicki Minaj went at it during the first AI taping Sunday in NYC. When Nicki started critiquing a contestant, Mariah would interrupt – not once, but many times. Each time Mariah interrupted, Nicki fought back by loudly talking over Mariah,” the celebrity e-zine says.

“One AI spy said Mariah and Nicki tried to cover their disdain for each other but everyone saw through it, adding, ‘These girls just don't like each other’,” the report further notes.

One can only imagine how these two might interact during the live shows or whether they’ll be able to keep a lid on their feelings towards each other, and act as true professionals.

Keith Urban and Randy Jackson will also be sitting at the judges table come next season of the music competition. So far, no word on how they’re getting along, which can only mean they’re just fine.

Of course, fans of the show should know that this kind of reports make it online every time a change is made to the judges lineup: the same happened with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, so it was almost a given it should happen now.

Because of this, we’d say the above is best taken with a grain of salt.
