Mariah Carey almost gave birth to twins on her birthday, which she calls her “anniversary” on her Twitter page. The singer started having contractions and was rushed to the hospital – but was then sent home.

When breaking the news that she and husband Nick Cannon were truly expecting their first child, following months of speculation, Mariah would not say when she was due.

She did say, though, that she would be giving birth sometime in spring – and it would seem that the date is nearer than we thought.

The singer took to Twitter to update her fans on a quick trip she made to the hospital, when she believed she was about to give birth.

As it happens, it turns out it was just a scare, right as Mariah was getting ready to celebrate her birthday / “anniversary.”

“So #dembabies really wanted 2 celebrate w/us/share the anniversary! I started having contractions last night..went 2 the hospital,” Mariah tweeted hours ago.

She was seen by a doctor and was eventually sent home. Both she and the babies are, of course, fine.

“Finally they said I could come home after they got it under control but..,” the singer teases on Twitter.

“They almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!! We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!: ) #soreadyallready!” she gushes.

In February this year, after confirming they were indeed expecting twins, Mariah and Nick announced that they would be having a boy and a girl.

In an interview, Mariah said she tried to keep everything “gender neutral” before finding that out, because she didn’t want to “impose” anything on the children.

“There were fan contests on Twitter about what gender they are and rumors about them being two boys or two girls – but nobody guessed this!” she said at the time.

Mariah had her baby shower a couple of weeks ago. She says she and Nick have not yet decided on names for the children – or, if they have, they’re definitely not saying which they are before they’re born.
