Singer Mariah Carey always manages to strike an impeccable pose, regardless of whether she’s on the red carpet at some A-list gala or on Halloween night, dressed as an angel whose attire might be described as the direct result of a bad case of fever. Her recent appearance on Jay Leno though was the exception that makes the rule, as she tripped just while she was making her big entrance on the show.

Fans and the rest of the world alike know Mariah’s undying love for towering heels, some of which are so incredibly high probably few women would actually dare wear a pair in real life. The shoes were also the reason why she almost took a tumble, Carey told Leno after catching her breath, although the video below would rather indicate the trip had more to do with the singer missing a step.

Be that as it may, the always-gracious Mariah showed that she could joke about everything, even if it meant something that happened to her. “You know when I tripped, I had choreographed that earlier. It was a plan to make Jay nervous that he was going to get sued. This is what happened backstage, my strap came loose. This is the cause of the whole thing,” Mariah told Leno, pointing to a strap on her pumps that had, indeed, come loose.

To this, Leno replied that all men in the audience had probably already noted the loose strap, hinting at her body hugging black dress, with a very ample décolletage. Smiling, Mariah then moved on to speak of her hurried marriage to Nick Cannon and how she got “a lot of grief” for it for not telling anybody that they were actually going to get married. She also discussed her new fragrance, showing women in the audience how they’re supposed to dab themselves with it.

However, the reason Mariah was on Leno in the first place was to talk about the drama “Precious,” where she plays a social worker and for which part she’s already garnering Oscar buzz. “I didn’t read the script, but the movie made me cry. I think it’s, like, my fifth time. It gets better every time. It’s really something that’s so strong and different and I think that it’s really going to enlighten a lot of people and help a lot of people,” Mariah said of how the film managed to move her to tears every single time she watched it.

Below is the video of Mariah Carey tripping and almost taking a fall – almost being the key word here.
