Mariah Carey is back. The recently slimmed down singer did a promo appearance for Jenny last week, the program that helped her shift all her pregnancy weight and, while speaking of the weight loss, she also dished some details about her upcoming album.

As he fans must know, Mariah is now working on a new studio album, while also preparing some Christmas music as a surprise to her loyal “lambs.”

Speaking with the press about the pregnancy and the toll it took on her body, the diva told reporters that it actually helped her with her voice, in that it made it stronger.

“Right now I feel like pregnancy actually helped me vocally. At this moment my voice is in great shape,” the singer said, as the video below will confirm.

Mariah also points out that, as expected, the pregnancy has inspired her as a songwriter and a producer, besides making her voice stronger.

She also confirmed that she was back in the studio, working on a new album, but wouldn't say when it might come out.

Oddly enough, the LA Times writes, if Mariah noticed such improvements to her voice during the pregnancy, she must be one of the few lucky exceptions, because hormones usually impact one's vocal abilities in a negative way.

“Surprisingly little work seems to be out there studying pregnancy on singing voices – but one 2011 study from the Journal of Voice tracked the performance of trained singers during the last 12 weeks of pregnancy and about 11 weeks after birth, as well as their estrogen and progesterone levels during that time. They found, among other things, 'a perceptible decrease in vocal brightness',” LA Times writes.

Similarly, women in premenstrual and early menstrual days also experience mild problems with their voice, which means they have to put in an extra effort to have the same performance as before.

“Many of these changes sound like they're more negative than positive,” the LA Times says, “so whether being preggers could improve a voice such as Mariah Carey's remains an open question.”
