New album drops on May 23, diva says she’s under pressure to deliver her best yet

Mariah Carey’s new album, her fourteenth so far, titled “Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse,” drops on May 23 but, according to the diva herself, she’s still hard at work, putting the finishing touches on it.

This album is supposed to be her best yet and it should be experienced as a whole, as a “body of work,” Mariah explained the other night on David Letterman. She also explained once more why the fancy title and how she came up with it.

That part of the interview is available in the first video embedded below. The second one is actually of the full interview but it’s of very poor quality, so I imagine it will only appeal to true fans, or Lambs, as Mariah calls them.

Unlike most artists, she talks very little about the album, except for the things mentioned above. She doesn’t name any of her collaborators and doesn’t even hint about the direction she’ll be going sound-wise.

On the upside, Mariah does talk freely about her 2 children with husband Nick Cannon, aka Dem Babies, working with the stellar ensemble on “The Butler” and her hopes for getting more acting roles, and a widget developed by Time Magazine that, apparently, allows you to create your own fancy Mariah-style album title. You know, in case you ever wish to go into music but are running out of ideas for titles.

Enjoy!
